Bridges

A bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining an artificial tooth permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants.

Types of bridges may vary, depending upon how they are fabricated and the way they anchor to the adjacent teeth. Conventionally, bridges are made using the indirect method of restoration. However, bridges can be fabricated directly in the mouth using such materials as composite resin.

Cleaning

Teeth cleaning is part of oral hygiene and involves the removal of dental plaque from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities (dental caries), gingivitis, and periodontal disease. People routinely clean their own teeth by brushing and interdental cleaning, and dental hygienists can remove hardened deposits (tartar) not removed by routine cleaning.

Crowns

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth. They are typically bonded to the tooth using a dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth. While inarguably beneficial to dental health, the procedure and materials can be relatively expensive.

The most common method of crowning a tooth involves using a dental impression of a prepared tooth by a dentist to fabricate the crown outside of the mouth. The crown can then be inserted at a subsequent dental appointment. Using this indirect method of tooth restoration allows use of strong restorative materials requiring time consuming fabrication methods requiring intense heat, such as casting metal or firing porcelain which would not be possible to complete inside the mouth. Because of the expansion properties, the relatively similar material costs, and the aesthetic benefits, many patients choose to have their crown fabricated with gold and can also be made of white porcelain or porcelain fused to gold.

Dentures

What ShouldYou Look for in a Great Denture or Partial?
How They Fit...
A properly fitting denture of partial that conforms well to your mouth is essential to your success in wearing them.
How They Work...
A great working denture or partial will allow you to thoroughly chew your food and speak clearly without slurring your words or whistling. Although they will never replace the real thing, they can greatly improve your quality of life.
How Natural They Look...
The object of a great denture of partial is to replace the look of your natural teeth, so people say What beautiful teeth you have! rather than What a nice denture you have!

Extractions

A dental extraction (also referred to as exodontia) is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, including tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to render the tooth non-restorable. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.

Fillings

Dental filling is a dental restorative material used to restore the function, integrity of tooth structure that have decay. The advantage of a dental filling is that they usually set quickly and can be placed in a single procedure. Ask Dr. Stermer or Dr. Allaman for the options of fillings that he offers and the advantages of each.

GUM TREATMENT

Gum treatment may be needed because dental diseases may affect the teeth, the gums, or other tissues and parts of the mouth. Dental diseases can cause much more serious problems than toothache; they can affect our ability to chew, smile, or speak properly.

These are among the most common diseases in humans and include dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis and many more oral conditions. The prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of these diseases are the base to the dentistry profession, in which are dentists and dental hygienists, and its sub-specialties, such as oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and endodontics.

Dental diseases may also affect the gums. Dental diseases can cause a range of problems from a slight tooth ache, to cavities, and ulcers. The three most common of these diseases are Dental Caries, Gingivitis, and Periodontitis. These diseases can affect speech, smile, ability to chew, and in some cases the loss of teeth. Dental Diseases can be prevented by taking proper care of teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular visits to our office will help prevent these diseases.

Oral Cancer Examination

When used in combination with traditional oral cancer examination procedures, Sapphire Plus Lesion Detection provides enhanced information to better detect and diagnose the presence of cancer or pre-cancer. Sapphire Plus LD provides enhanced visual information so one can better detect and diagnose the presence of cancer or pre-cancer, which is why Sapphire Plus LD should be a routine part of the complete visual and physical exams performed in the practice.

Reasons to screen patients with Sapphire Plus Lesion Detection:

  • Clinically proven technology for early detection of oral lesions
  • High power output for enhanced visualization
  • Find lesions that aren't visible under white light
  • Potential to save lives through early detection
  • Superior optics bring examinations closer for enhanced viewing
  • Easily administered during routine checkups
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) increases the need for screening young, non-smoking patients

Early detection is vital. When cancer is discovered late, survival rates are as low as 28%; when it's discovered early, survival rates are as high as 82%.2.

Partial Denture

A removable partial denture (RPD) is for a dental patient who desires to have replacement teeth for functional or aesthetic reasons, and who cannot have a bridge (a fixed partial denture) for any number of reasons, such as a lack of required teeth to serve as support for a bridge or due to financial limitations.

The reason why this type of prosthesis is referred to as a removable partial denture is because patients can remove and reinsert them when required.
